About The Kehillah Project
Our Mission: Reclaiming Our Narrative
For generations, the Jewish story has often been told by others. Our history has been defined by outsiders, our motivations questioned, and our identity framed through a lens that is not our own. The Kehillah Project was born from a simple, powerful idea: it is time to tell our own story.
This platform is built by and for the Jewish community to reclaim our history, confront modern threats with clarity, and define our future. We are a platform for Jewish strength, knowledge, and unity.
Our Strategy: Identity → Action → Challenge
The structure of this website is intentional, designed to guide visitors on a journey that mirrors our collective experience:
- Identity: We begin with Our Unbreakable Chain—a concise exploration of our 3,500-year history. We establish our indigenous roots in the Land of Israel through archaeology and chronicle our long history of resistance and survival. This is our foundation.
- Action: Awareness is not enough. The knowledge of who we are and the threats we face must be channeled into constructive action. Our platform is designed to rally support for the core institutions that ensure our continuity and strength.
- Challenge: With our story firmly in hand, we confront the present. Our Analysis and Intelligence sections provide a real-time view of the challenges we face, from media bias to the networks that perpetuate hate.
An Appeal for Unity: Our Synagogues, Our Strength
Many American Jews are secular and may not attend services regularly—a valued part of our community's diversity. But we must be clear: the forces that threaten us do not care about our level of observance. They target our synagogues for a strategic reason: because they know these institutions are the visible, beating hearts of our communities. They are where our children are educated, our vulnerable are cared for, and our traditions are passed to the next generation.
Therefore, supporting our synagogues is not merely a religious act; it is a strategic act of communal self-defense and unity. By strengthening our core institutions, we build the infrastructure required to advocate for and defend all Jews—secular, semi-religious, and religious alike. That is why our Take Action section directs support to the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ). Together, they represent the overwhelming majority of affiliated American Jews and provide critical support to hundreds of congregations nationwide.
Disclaimer: We are not affiliated with the URJ or USCJ, nor did we receive their permission to post these links. We simply believe in their missions and encourage individuals to support them or their local synagogues, regardless of personal religiosity.
A Complementary Approach to Fighting Hate
We believe our strength is not built on changing the minds of others, but on reinforcing the foundations of our own community from within. While large-scale public awareness campaigns have their place, we advocate for a complementary approach: investing inward.
Imagine major philanthropic funds directed toward our core communal institutions. This could fund educational programs, enhance security for dozens of synagogues, and create initiatives that reconnect disconnected Jews to their community. We hope this project serves as an example of an approach that prioritizes building our internal strength as the ultimate defense against external hate.
Who We Are
The Kehillah Project is a grassroots initiative. We are everyday Jews, assimilated into the fabric of American life, who are dedicated to providing the mainstream American Jewish community with the tools to re-discover our history and confront our challenges. As we are reminded every Passover, "In every generation, they seek to destroy us (bekhol dor va'dor omedim aleinu lechaloteinu)." Our fight today is no different from the ones of the past. We must rise to the occasion and unite for our future.
